The Louis D. Brandeis Bronco Band is proud to sponsor the 14th annual South Texas Classic. The 2021 STC will be held at the Brandeis Athletic Field located at 13011 Kyle Seale Pkwy, San Antonio, Texas 78249 on November 6, 2021.

Groups compete to win awards for top 3 in class, captions awards for outstanding snare line, tenor line, bass line, cymbal line, front ensemble, and the title of Grand Champion.

2021 Judges

Rob Ferguson

Rob Ferguson is currently the Director and Music Designer for Matrix Percussion, WGI Independent World percussion ensemble and has been since its inception in 1999. In addition, Rob will be joining the design team of the Phantom Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps as the Front Ensemble Arranger. Rob served as the Percussion Coordinator and Percussion Arranger for the Glassmen Drum and Bugle Corps from Toledo, Ohio, from 2008-2012, and is currently the Percussion Arranger for the Hawthorne Caballeros Drum and Bugle Corps from Hawthorne, NJ. Rob has served as a percussion representative for the Mideast Performance Association, as a member of the WGI Percussion Advisory Board, and currently serves as the Percussion Education Director for the Ohio Indoor Performance Association. Rob holds a Bachelor of Science and Master of Music in Music Performance from Kent State University where he studied with Michael Burritt and Ted Rounds. He previously served as adjunct percussion faculty and assistant marching band director at Youngstown State University, and currently is the Percussion and Design Coordinator for Firestone High School, and Norton High School bands in Northeast Ohio.

Rob is an active clinician and adjudicator for both the indoor and outdoor marching activities. He has presented clinics on marching percussion, keyboard percussion, arranging, and amplification in the marching activity throughout the U.S. and in Europe including the 2007 PAS convention, and the 2008 Indoor Percussion Europe Championships. Ferguson has performed as a marimba clinician and guest artist with numerous high school and college programs and percussion ensembles.

In addition to teaching, Rob is a designer, composer, and consultant for outdoor and indoor marching ensembles throughout the U.S. and abroad. He is the owner of Ferguson Design Solutions, a company providing arrangements, original compositions, consulting, and design resources for marching bands, drum corps, and indoor percussion ensembles in all major arenas of the pageantry arts. Rob currently resides in Cuyahoga Falls, OH with his wife, Kate. Rob is an endorser and clinician for Dynasty USA, Innovative Percussion, the Avedis Zildjian Co., Remo Inc., and Planet Waves.

Brian Perez

Brian Perez is currently the Percussion Director at Klein Cain High School, which opened in the Fall of 2017.  He is currently on staff with the Boston Crusaders where he has been since 2017. Brian received his Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from the University of Houston. Perez has also served on staff at the Cavaliers 2006-09, Madison Scouts 2010-11 and Cadets 2012-16. 

Brian has also taught at Clear Brook High School in Friendswood, TX, working alongside Christopher Retschulte, and assisted with their  victory as champions of the 2005 WGI Scholastic Open Class. 

Perez was a member of the Santa Clara Vanguard tenor line from 2000-2004 under the instruction of the legendary Ralph Hardimon, Glen Crosby, Jim Casella, and Murray Gusseck. There he served as the section leader for all five years and was a member of the instructional staff in 2005. Perez was a member of the 2001 Texas All-State Band, performed in Superbowl XXXVIII in 2004 with artists such as Jessica Simpson and also received the honor of the first place tenor individual award at Percussive Arts Society International Convention in 1999.

Brian currently resides in The Woodlands, TX, with his wife Joni. He is a member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, Texas Music Educators Association, and Percussive Arts Society.

Dan Allen

Dan Allen is a musician and educator in the Dallas Fort Worth area, currently working as a Percussion Specialist for the Rock Hill High School band program in Prosper, Texas, where he assists with electronics, sound design, and directs all percussion activities at Hays Middle School.

Dan holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from Texas Christian University. He competed with the TCU Pasic drumline in 2006, a group that swept all eligible captions and took 1st place. In the fall of 2008, he won the PASIC individual snare solo title with an original composition called “On the Shoulders of Giants” – a tribute to the greats that made the art of rudimental snare drum what it is today.

Dan competed in DCI on snare drum for four years, and aged out as the drumline section leader during the summer of Spartacus, a show that earned Phantom Regiment a Fred Sanford High Percussion Award and a DCI World Championship. 

Dan also performed with electronic dance music duo Odesza, as a member of the drumline for the “A Moment Apart” Tour, including performances at Lollapalooza, Red Rocks Amphitheater, LaneWay Music Festival In Australia, and as a top billed act of Coachella 2018. 

As an educator, Dan has worked with several high achieving percussion programs in Texas, including Colleyville Heritage high school under the direction of Jeff Ausdemore, and Coppell High school under the direction of Zach Scheer. He has been on staff for both the Blue Knights Drum Corps and the Blue Knights Percussion Ensemble, as well as the Crossmen, Phantom Regiment, the Santa Clara Vanguard, and has served as the battery coordinator for both the Troopers and Vigilantes Indoor Percussion. Dan is a Dynasty Percussion artist.

Aside from teaching, Dan is an active drumset performer in the Dallas area, and shares his latest drumming / electronic music creations under the name, @SnareFlow
